Over the past 2 weeks we have seen 3 dogs that are dying or have died from a fatal kidney disease called Lyme Nephritis. These dogs are positive for Lyme disease and have never been treated or vaccinated for the disease. The way the disease process works is that every time a dog is further infected by a Lyme infected tick bite they are more susceptible to getting Lyme Nephritis. Unfortunately Lyme Nephritis is fatal as there really is no guaranteed treatment once their kidneys are damaged by this disease. By getting them vaccinated they will be protected from FURTHER infection and hopefully this will prevent any possibility of getting the fatal Lyme Nephritis we are seeing. Over the past 7-8 months we have seen about 9 cases total that we know of and it seems to only be getting worse. Dr. Diana is currently undergoing intensive research and studies on all these cases so we can prevent this from occurring as much as possible! IT IS PREVENTABLE!!! By getting your dogs the 2 part series of the Lyme vaccination and getting them on a good monthly tick preventative (i.e. Simparica, Nexguard or the Seresto collar) you will be providing the best possible care against this disease.
The Lyme vaccine we use is manufactured by Zoetis Animal Health. If your dog Is on Simparica and is vaccinated for Lyme disease and gets Lyme for some reason they will pay up to $5,000 for treatment. That is how good the preventative Simparica and the Lyme vaccine are!
